"Prépare-toit" ("Get ready"), the Vernon Institute

Social integration of people suffering from Down's syndrome

"Prépare-toit" is a project for initiating young adults suffering from Down's syndrome into independent life, at the Vernon Institute in the French département of Eure.

In association with Geist 21 (Study group for the social integration of people suffering from Down's syndrome),
the Jean-Pierre and Marie-Thérèse Le Roch - Les Mousquetaires Foundation has contributed towards the purchase of a house in the centre of Vernon so that young people suffering from Down's syndrome can begin an independent life.

Between December 2000 and June 2001, parents and volunteers renovated the house which was officially opened on 13 October 2001.

The Geist 21 association has designed an educational project adapted to each age range, starting as early as possible. When the child becomes an adult, he or she will benefit from sheltered employment or work in an ordinary environment, with the aim of acquiring sufficient autonomy and social skills to be able to lead an independent life in the Vernon Institute.

Support for the French national lifeboat institution (SNSM)

On 23 April 2002, at the French National Maritime Museum, Marie-Thérèse Le Roch, president of the Jean-Pierre and Marie-Thérèse Le Roch - Les Mousquetaires Foundation, presented to Admiral Gérard Gazzano, president of the French national lifeboat institution (SNSM), a donation intended to improve safety equipment for lifeboats and provide equipment for training centres.

With this donation, the Foundation is supporting an association dear to its heart: the French national lifeboat institution, which was founded in 1967.

This association consists of courageous men and women who willingly take on the task of saving lives on the high seas and on the coastline, so that "salt water shall never taste of tears".

To allow the association to carry out its task, in April 2004, the Jean-Pierre and Marie-Therèse Le Roch - Les Mousquetaires Foundation handed over a Renault Master mini-bus to the SNSM in each of the eight Les Mousquetaires' regions.
In 2005, the Foundation continues its partnership by making the donation of 8 kangoo vehicles to the SNSM's training centers.

Solidaribus

In response to the scale of the floods of 8-9 September 2002, the Emergency Service of the French département of Gard decided to create the "Solidaribus".

As a genuine 'outreach unit' of the Association, the "Solidaribus" is designed to regularly criss-cross the municipalities of Gard (80% of which was affected by the floods) to guide and support disaster victims and respond to their needs.

The Jean-Pierre and Marie-Thérèse Le Roch - Les Mousquetaires Foundation decided to help and at Nîmes, on 26 March 2003, it presented a donation intended to purchase and equip the "Solidaribus".

The Foundation supports the Laurette Fugain association

In 2003, the Foundation decided to support the work of the Laurette Fugain association, run by Stéphanie Fugain, which was set up to publicise the fight against leukaemia and inform the general public about donating blood platelets, which could save thousands of people from leukaemia, and at the same time create a database of potential donors.

Les Mousquetaires Foundation supports A.R.S.E.P

On 31 January 2004, the Jean Pierre and Marie Thérèse Le Roch - Les Mousquetaires Foundation presented a cheque for 50,000 euros to the Association for Multiple Sclerosis Research (A.R.S.E.P). This donation is intended to finance two scientific projects concerning this illness of the central nervous system which affects one person in 1,000 in France and which is the leading cause of handicap in young adults following traffic accidents.

Continued research is essential and it is with this objective in mind that the Les Mousquetaires Foundation, in keeping with its values, has decided to support the ARSEP initiative.

How we operate

The Jean-Pierre and Marie-Therèse Le Roch - Les Mousquetaires Foundation is managed by an executive committee consisting of representatives of Les Mousquetaires and key figures chosen for their expertise or involvement in the various fields of operation of the Foundation.

All the operations of the Jean-Pierre and Marie-Therèse Le Roch - Les Mousquetaires Foundation are described as being "under the aegis of the Fondation de France" and are carried out in accordance with the ethical code of the Fondation de France.

Created in 1969 to encourage the growth of private philanthropy in all its forms, the Fondation de France took part in setting up the ethical charter committee for social and humanitarian organisations relying on the generosity of the public.
The signatories of the charter undertake to observe a number of procedures, in particular concerning financial transparency: annual accounts must be provided and certified by an auditor with clear notes summarising these documents to make them accessible to donors.

History

In 1969, certain retailers decided to follow Jean-Pierre Le Roch and to pool their human, economic and financial resources to set up a new group in the retailing sector.

Thirty years on, by creating the Jean-Pierre and Marie-Thérèse Le Roch - Les Mousquetaires Foundation, they confirmed the commitment of their founder members in putting people at the centre of its activities.

They have tasked themselves with working to protect their heritage through their day to day work, and, in the domain of handicapped people, championing the values of responsibility and solidarity.
